A pioneer of digital satellite radio, Worldspace’s radio/broadcast studio space consists of 50,000 square feet of thirteen studios, corporate offices, and a satellite control center. rand* provided a direct purchase approach for the major mechanical and electrical components of the project, including the natural gas generator, rooftop units and chiller equipment.

The space includes drywall ceilings throughout the reception area, corridors, conference rooms, stair area and studios. The studio construction detail includes custom fabricated drywall panels for a sound rating of 18. The radius ceilings and walls are of superior quality and the reveal work is all done by hand. The stair area drywall was coordinated with the wood paneling and reveals to align both on a horizontal and vertical plane. The office area ceiling components are metal “wedges” installed in a standard acoustic grid system.

The major challenge of this project was the integration of the various complex trades on an expedited 12-week schedule.  Due to  a dedicated crew of up to 65 men on most days, a deliberate project approach, and extensive coordination, rand*’s project turnover was a success.
