The stunning building at 1445 New York Ave NW, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, housed the very first local bank and has housed SunTrust Bank for over 100 years. We worked with Gensler to restore features of the space and renovate conference rooms and executive suites while honoring the space’s historical grandeur.

Precise scheduling and trade coordination was key on this project. The original plaster columns exhibited years of wear and tear and required significant restoration. We stripped the existing column wraps down to the steel beams, took molds of the base and pilaster capitals and recreated them in fiberglass and plaster. Additionally, custom glass from Italy was installed after the majority of renovation work was completed with masterful coordination between the plaster and glass teams.

The mixture of glass walls with finishes original to the 126-year-old building provides a uniquely modern aesthetic that still honors the space’s history.
