rand* completed Richard Sandoval’s Toro Toro DC location in late March, just in time for the grand opening. The two-story lounge and restaurant boasts a hip Latin design with dark wood, glowing orange accents and touches of a steakhouse throughout. This high-end space contains an elevated stage and DJ booth, a full-service kitchen, a show kitchen, general and private dining areas, and two full-service bars.  The project required a full demolition and build-out including an interconnecting stair, new storefront, and multiple custom-fabricated finishes on an aggressive schedule. Due to permitting issues, the actual build-out schedule was condensed to eight weeks and required that the project team re-sequence the trades and, in most cases, overlap them to ensure timely delivery.

A custom wine cooler was installed to house Toro Toro’s famed collection of international wines, and cast iron partitions define the second story perimeter and interconnecting stair. Custom finishes include resin panels, millwork, stone fabrications, and miscellaneous metals. Marble and rustic hardwood intersect to delineate the cross between a Brazilian steakhouse and a Latin tapas bar. rand* worked diligently to ensure that the finished product met the exact specifications and exceeded the client’s highest expectations.
