The North American Electric Reliability Corporation’s main mission is to ensure the reliability of the North American bulk power system. NERC develops and enforces reliability standards, assesses adequacy annually, monitors the bulk power system, and educates, trains and certifies industry personnel. As a result, the organization’s office on G Street required state-of-the-art video conference rooms, with automated display monitors and a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF). The new reception area boasts high-end finishes such as a backlit illuminated reception desk, quarter-figured Makore focal panels, extensive wall coverings, frosted glass features, and a sable-honed tile floor.

Due to the nature of the AV systems and low voltage and security requirements, various coordination efforts had to be considered. Multiple challenges, such as asbestos abatement, extremely tight ceiling conditions, and the re-engineering of an exterior louver installation, had to be overcome in order to complete the project. The complex nature of working directly below a Russian radio station, which requires complete silence during “live air” times, and team members who resided from Atlanta and had pre-booked air travel required exact “3-week Look Ahead” schedules. Still, rand* was able to finish the project on-time and within budget.
