rand* was contracted by Grady Memorial Hospital for a number of interior renovations, one being the renovation of the existing hospital servery. The work was completed in an occupied setting, and the hospital had to remain 100% operational, following specific protocols for systems and requirements. The team had to build a temporary servery for usage during the build-out, as well as reserve one elevator for access throughout the schedule. Minimizing the impact of construction was especially difficult due to the end client being a hospital thus having no off-hours and 24/7 operations.

The scope of work included selective demolition of the space including the mechanical and electrical systems, all new finishes, millwork, kitchen equipment, low voltage, and all new MEP infrastructure and supporting systems. During preconstruction, diligent value engineering exercises were performed to maintain the budget while not impacting the design, infrastructure, or quality of materials. During the build-out, both the project and field management teams maintained constant communication with the client and hospital support staff. The team’s attention to detail and time spent on site ensured the work was being completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality.
