Austin Vistors Center

The Austin Vistors Center project involved the transformation of the historic Phillips Building, originally constructed in 1917, into a new destination for visitors in the heart of downtown Austin. The build-out combines public-facing tourism functions with retail, hospitality, and administrative spaces while preserving the character of the existing building and adapting it to support modern operations.

The space features interactive exhibits, a public assembly area with integrated audio/visual capabilities, retail space showcasing locally made products, a coffee bar, and dedicated staff offices. High-end finishes, sustainable materials, upgraded MEP systems, and extensive custom millwork were incorporated throughout the project. Each element was carefully coordinated to create a cohesive environment that reflects Austin’s culture while accommodating the variety of functions housed within the Visitor Center.

rand* managed construction from demolition through final turnover, coordinating closely with city agencies, design partners, and trade contractors while navigating the logistical constraints of an active downtown location. The completed Visitor Center provides Visit Austin with a functional and engaging space that supports both travelers and staff while creating a distinctive introduction to the city.
