Noblis

rand* worked with SmithGroup to deliver a contemporary, colorful and surprising workspace for Noblis, a nonprofit scientific research corporation headquartered in Reston, Virginia. rand* demonstrated flexibility and adaptability in delivering the seven-floor complete interior buildout, which started from an existing white box building, was built to LEED-certified standards.

A single linear light snakes its way through the angular bulkhead leading through the office space, creating a striking visual guide down the colorful hallway. The space features over 200 different types of LED light fixtures and over 2,000 feet of custom lighting, provided by JLL and installed by rand*.

The space features an impressive array of flexible workspace, including collaborative open seating areas, large formal conference rooms, as well as various small huddle rooms for private conversations or a moment alone. Bursts of bright yellow furniture and rich cobalt blue carpeting guide the eye from workspace to workspace. An undulating honey comb ceiling provides visual intrigue and acoustical organization to an open collaboration zone with colorful pod seating. Due to the hard move-in date, designs for custom elements throughout the space were still being developed after mobilization. Through utilizing their extensive project knowledge and being flexible, the project was able to reach substantial completion on time incorporating all new design elements and additional scope.
