Bellwood Coffee contracted rand* to help finalize design and buildout of their new coffee shop at the mixed-use development of Bolton Village in West Midtown. The preconstruction period was critical for site survey and reporting as the existing usage of the location was for a retail tenant. The conversion of the space required detailed reporting of the existing infrastructure as well as field measuring to ensure proper clearances for all new ceiling infrastructure while maintaining the designed ceiling heights. Extensive renovations to the base building mechanical and electrical systems were required to meet the city’s health inspection requirements.
The shop’s aesthetic is highly fluid with sealed concrete flooring, exposed ceilings, exposed steel columns that is clad in a custom finish to match the surrounding millwork, custom planters with millwork cladding, cloud wood ceiling elements, and unique light fixtures. The equipment coordination required constant communication with the vendors and client to ensure spacing in the field, exact demarks, and rough-in locations during layout. This was critical as the supply chain disruption for the kitchen equipment required a 7 week demobilization making the layout and work sequencing key for a prompt remobilization when the equipment became available. A custom glass wall and casing frames the coffee bean roaster allowing customers to see the roasting process.
