Virtru is a global data encryption and digital policy provider founded in 2012. They were the first awardee of the DC Vitality fund which provides multi-year, performance-based grants to companies that relocate or expand in DC.
The project went through an extensive value engineering effort, realizing 35% savings, while maintaining the project priorities and design intent. The feature piece of this space was a mesh metal wall with integrated lighting that went through the entire space. This feature wall was over 150LF and made for a unique experience when walking through the space, which was primarily open concept and only a handful of private offices. Another key element was the curved walls and bulkheads throughout. Due to the open concept, electrical rough-in to floor boxes was challenging and required extensive coordination with the tenants below.
The design of this project had a lot of unique elements, such as a neon Aretha Franklin sign, bright purple and blue paint colors, and provisions for a ping pong table. rand* worked closely with both Gensler and Webster9, an additional designer, to complete the vision.
